Brede Parish Council is situated in the rural area of Rother District Council in East Sussex. The Parish has around 850 households with an electorate of 1552 and a population just over 1800.
Brede Parish is eight miles north of Hastings and four miles to the west of Rye (its main service provider) within 1066 Country, a tourist area. It comprises two villages, Broad Oak and Brede, with a small settlement called Cackle Street in between. The Parish has two pubs, two shops, and assorted small businesses, primary school and preschool, Methodist church, Church of England church, recreation ground and community hall, village hall and a small village green. It is also home to the Brede Steam Giants, a heritage society preserving the triple expansion steam pumping engines, which provides open days for the enjoyment of public visitors.
Brede Parish Council is the first tier of local government and is here to represent the needs of the local community. We are a statutory body with nine councillors.
The Council meets on the fourth Tuesday of every month (except August and December). Meetings rotate between the Trinity Methodist Church Hall and Brede Village Hall Committee Room at 7.30pm and we encourage parishioners to come along to the meetings and find out what is going on. There is always an opportunity for questions and comments, and we would be delighted to see you there.
The Recreation Ground is held by the Parish Council on trust for the village as a perpetual open space.
It lies on the Udimore Road opposite Brede School and is used by the school as a playing field. There are several pieces of play equipment with more to come.
